The option to undertake an Internship is available to students of the MSc Programme on an optional basis, exclusively during the third semester. As third-semester lectures begin in October of each academic year, the Internship is organised within the corresponding academic period.

The Internship has a duration of three (3) months. Accordingly, it may take place at any time between October and April, provided that it is completed no later than 30 April of the following calendar year. For example, a student may begin their Internship on 24 November 2026 and complete it on 24 February 2027.

In accordance with the Government Gazette approving the University’s Internship Regulations for the Department Assembly (attached), the Department of Economics and, consequently, the MSc Programme are required to establish an Internship Committee, including an Academic Supervisor and Coordinator. Therefore, interested students must submit their expressions of interest and relevant CVs at the beginning of each academic year.

Once collaborating organisations have notified the Programme in good time of available Internship positions, interested students are invited to submit their applications at the beginning of the third semester. Students should note that a period of approximately three to four weeks is required from the date on which an agreement between the student and the host organisation is confirmed in order for the relevant contracts to be prepared, approved and signed before the selected student begins the Internship.

Internship Remuneration

For students undertaking an Internship:

– For Internships in the public sector, remuneration is €350 per month for full-time employment (more than 20 hours per week) and €175 per month for part-time employment.

– For Internships with a private-sector organisation, the same amounts apply as the minimum remuneration. The host organisation may provide higher remuneration if it so wishes.

– In both cases, the above amounts include social security contributions.

Finally, in order for a student to successfully complete the Internship and receive remuneration from the University, they must submit an attendance record duly stamped and signed by the authorised representative of the host organisation.

The student’s performance during the Internship must also be assessed, since the Internship constitutes an elective course and, in accordance with the applicable legislation and regulations, must be graded by the Academic Supervisor for Internships.
