Curriculum

The courses are taught on a semester basis, and each cycle of study leading to the award of the Master’s Degree includes taught components (lectures and tutorials), as well as research activities and practical exercises. The language of instruction is Greek or English.

At the beginning of the first semester, postgraduate students attend a number of preparatory courses.

For students with a background in Economics:

1. Introduction to Technology & Principles of Biosystems

2. Introduction to Chemistry & Physics of Life Sciences

For students with a background in non-Economics disciplines:

1. Introduction to Microeconomics

2. Introduction to Macroeconomics

The Econometrics course is common to all students.

The preparatory courses run for six (6) weeks, with three (3) hours of instruction per week, and are held at the beginning of each academic year. They are followed by a one-week examination period.

The courses and their distribution by semester are presented in the following table:

The MSc program may be changed via the Steering Committee and approval of the GA of the Department.

Course Scheduling

The course schedule is designed to accommodate the particularly demanding needs of postgraduate students. Within this framework, classes are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 18:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 15:00. However, classes may also be scheduled on other days of the week where required by the needs of the Programme.

As a rule, all courses of the Programme are taught in Greek and comprise 33 hours of instruction, with the exception of the preparatory courses, each of which comprises 18 hours and is delivered over the first six (6) weeks of each academic year. The preparatory courses are completed with examinations.

Upon enrolment in the Postgraduate Programme, each student receives from the Secretariat the Academic Calendar and the Programme Timetable, which include the start and end dates of the teaching periods, the days and times of classes, the dates of other events or academic obligations, examination periods, public holidays, and other relevant information.
